Varsity to organize intercollegiate cultural festival on campus for first time

Mangalore, Aug 31, 2012 : The Mangalore University will organize a 3-day intercollegiate cultural festival for colleges affiliated to it as well as constituent colleges from September 3 to September 5 on its campus.


 Addressing reporters at a press conference held at Press Club on August 31, Friday, Prof. T. C. Shivashankar Murthy, vice chancellor of Mangalore University, said that competitions will be held in music, dance, theatre, literature, and fine arts. A total of 25 events will be held, he added.

The competitions, which used to be organized in five colleges affiliated to the university over one month in the past, will be held on the Mangalore University campus in the form of a cultural festival for the first time. Competitions will be held at venues such as Mangala Auditorium, Old Senate Hall, Yakshagana Kala Kendra, MBA Seminar Hall, Humanities Block, and Commerce Hall, simultaneously.


As many as 1270 students from 49 colleges affiliated to Mangalore University are taking part in this festival. The judges will be senior artistes and subject experts, he said.


Padma Shree Chittani Ramachandra Hegade, the renowned Yakshagana artist, will inaugurate the festival at 10:00 a.m. on September 3 at Mangala Auditorium. Prof. T. C. Shivashankar Murthy will preside over the inaugural event.


The valedictory ceremony will be held on September 5 at 3:00 p.m. with Malpe Laxminarayana Samaga, president of Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, as the chief guest.


He also announced that 80 of the 193 colleges affiliated to the university have been permitted to conduct admissions online and also do the internal assessment online.


He announced that Mangalore University will celebrate its 33rd Founders Day on September 10, on the occasion of which 140 laptops will be distributed among assistant professors and professors. Prof. Ramanand Shetty, vice chancellor of Nitte University, will deliver the lecture, he added.


Registrar Subramanya Yadapadithaya, Student Welfare Director Khader, and MCJ Professor G. P. Shivaram were also present at the press conference.
