Vanashri Residential School organizes statewide anti child labor campaign

Mangalore, May 16, 2012 : The children of Vanashri Residential School in Sagar, with the public instruction department, labour department, and woman and child welfare department, presented an anti child labor show at KSRTC Bus Stand, Mangalore on May 15, Tuesday. They wore colorful costumes to attract public attention.

Manjappa, founder of Vanashri Residential School in Sagar, said on the occasion that the group has 100 children from different parts of Karnataka. They began their anti child labor campaign on April 25 in Sirsi and have been travelling to different parts of the state ever since. The group came to DK on May 15, Tuesday.

He urged the public not to encourage child beggars, but help them go to school instead. Children should neither work nor beg for a living, he said, adding that each child below the age of 14 has the right to go to school. He said that anybody coming across a child begging or working must help them go to school or take them to Vanashri Residential School or the woman and child welfare department.


The Vanashri School team will leave Mangalore for Udupi on Wednesday. They will then visit places such as Honnavar, Siddapur, Shikaripura, and Shimoga before returning to Sagar on May 21.
