Mangalore, Feb 23, 2012: The Mangalore branch of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union organized a demonstration in front of the Mangalore Railway Station on Feb 23 Thursday to bring the attention of the authorities to certain problems faced by patients in Mangalore owing to poor medical service in PGT division, particularly MAQ, hospitals.
In his protest address, Anand, the secretary of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union, said that owing to the non availability of specialists and modern medical equipment and medication, patients are forced to go to private hospitals for treatment.
Stating that the hospital referred at present is Wenlock Hospital, he complained that it is no better than the Railway Hospital and demanded that Fr. Mullers, Unity, or KMC must be referred, particularly because the family members of the railway department staff number over 7,500.
He also said that reimbursement of medical expenses is unnecessarily delayed.
Suresh, the division assistant of Pallakad Division, and Jayachandra, its assistant division secretary, along with many others also participated in the protest.
