Mangalore, Aug 28, 2013: Karnataka State Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake and Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj met Union Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily in New Delhi on August 26, Monday and held talks with him on the projects that need to be taken at Malpe port on an immediate basis.
They also drew the attention of the minister towards the several necessities of fishermen utilizing the port.
On this occasion, the Union Minister has directed the Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited to take up some projects in Malpe Fisheries Port as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
As per the proposal, a sum of Rs 20 lakhs would be utilized towards a rest room for fisherwomen at the port. The room will have lavatory, bathroom and drinking water facility. Another sum of Rs 16 lakhs would be utilized towards installation of hi-mast lights and Rs 20 lakhs towards fixing floor tiles at the fish auctioning spot at the jetty area of the port.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj has thanked the Union Minister for responding to the pleas of the fishermen in Malpe port.
