Unable to bear uncle’s torture, young girl sets herself ablaze

Kundapur, July 21, 2013: A 19 year old girl who had set herself ablaze unable to bear the torture by her uncle, has succumbed at the Wenlock Hospital on July 20, Saturday night.

The girl was admitted to the hospital earlier in the day. The deceased has been identified as Chaitra(19), daughter of Ratna Mogaveerti, a resident of Kotebagilu in Tallur. According to her mother, the two stayed at Chaitra’s uncle Sheena Mogaveera’s place ever since Chaitra’s father deserted them to marry another woman.

It is learnt, Sheena used to constantly harass and torture Chaitra, his niece. On July 19, Friday night too he had come home drunk and reportedly attacked her.

The young girl who could no longer bear the torture, later poured kerosene and set herself ablaze. Locals who rushed to the spot, admitted the girl who had sustained 90 per cent burn injuries to the Kundapur Government Hospital. She was later shifted to Wenlock Hospital where she breathed her last in the night.
