Udupi: Two get 20 years jail in separate POCSO cases; fines imposed

Udupi, Aug 12, 2025: The Udupi District Special POCSO Court has sentenced two accused in separate POCSO Act cases registered in 2024 at Byndoor and Padubidri police stations to 20 years of imprisonment along with fines.

The convicts have been identified as Raghavendra Gonda (35) of Gangnadu, Byndoor, in the Byndoor case, and Manjunath Patrot (23) of Badami, Bagalkote district, in the Padubidri case.

In July 2025, a total of 320 cases were disposed of in various courts across the district, of which 188 ended in conviction with imprisonment and/or fines. In one such case, related to a fatal road accident registered at Kundapur Traffic Police Station in 2019, the court sentenced the accused to 18 months in prison and imposed a fine of ₹9,000.
