Udupi: Man brutally murdered by three friends over viral audio clip

Udupi, Aug 13, 2025: A man was brutally murdered by three of his friends in Lingottugudde, Subrahmanya Nagar, Puttur, Udupi, on the night of August 12.
The deceased has been identified as Vinay Devadiga (35), a painter by profession.
According to police, on August 12, Vinay had gone to Udupi for personal work and returned home around 6 pm. After dinner, he went to sleep in his room. At around 11:45 pm, the accused — identified as Ajith, Akshendra, and Pradeep — barged into Vinay’s house looking for him.
They then entered his bedroom and attacked him with lethal weapons. Vinay sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
The murder is alleged to have been triggered after Vinay shared and made viral an audio recording in which a man named Jeevan abused accused Akshendra.
After the attack, the accused fled the scene on a scooter. Udupi Town Police have registered a case and are investigating.
