Udupi Athletic Association organizes 21km Synd Bank Half Marathon

Udupi, April 2, 2012 : S. K. Abrol, the general manager of Syndicate Bank, flagged off the 21km Synd Bank Half Marathon organized by the Udupi Athletic Association in front of the head office of the Syndicate Bank in Mangalore on the morning of April 1 Sunday in the presence of Dr. Ramdas M. Pai, the chancellor of Mangalore University; SP Boralingaiah, ZP CEO Prabhakar Sharma; Udupi MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat; and many others.

The first prize in the women’s and men’s category was bagged by Vijayamala Patil of Mumbai Club and Sandeep Kumar of Alva’s Sports Club in Moodubidri.

The second prize in the men’s category was won by Borappa M. and Neeraj Pal Singh of Alva’s Sports Club Moodubidri. The second and third prize in the women’s category was won by Priyanka Singh Patel of Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Rajani of Indira Gandhi College, respectively.

A separate 10km race was held for boys below 20 years. Ashraf, Manjunath M. Nayak, and Girish Shetty from First Grade College Nitte won the first, second, and third prize, respectively.

A 3km race was held for boys below 17, in which Sharath of SMS PU College in Brahmavar, Manjunath of Viveka Junion College in Kota, and Kiran Kamath of Poorna Prajna College of Udupi won the first, the second, and the third prize, respectively.

A 3km race was held for boys below 14, in which Kiran of Perdoor High School, Anil Kumar of Viveka Kota, and Raghavendra of Perdoor High School won the first, second, and third prizes, respectively.

A 3km race was held for men between the age of 35 and 59, in which Narayan Prabhu of Manipal University and Shankar of the Udupi police won the first and second prize, respectively. The third prize was shared between Shreedharan of Manipal and Sankappa Kanchan of Udyavara.

The first, second, and third prize in the senior citizen male category was bagged by Y. Kumaraswamy of Kabbinale, Wesley Karkada of Udupi, and K. L. Patel of Mysore, respectively.

A 10km race was held for women below 20, in which the first and second prize went to Keerthi and Swathi of Sanjay Gandhi School Amrapu and the third prize went to Jyothi of CJC Hiriadka.

A 3km race was held for girls below 14, in which the first, second, and third prize went to Sumathi of Government Primary School in Santhekatte, Kavitha of Sanjay Gandhi School, and Pathrika of Perdoor High School.

A 3km race was held for women in the age group of 35 – 59, in which the first, second, and third prize was won by Jyothi U. Shetty of Panorama Group of Companies, advocate Arunkala Rao, and Sulatha Kamath of Katpady, respectively.

 

 

T. Muralidharan, the GM of Syndicate Bank; Dr. H. S. Ballal, the pro chancellor of Manipal University; Anitha Nayak, the national athlete; and MLA Raghupathi Bhat distributed the prizes.
