Mangalore, Nov 20, 2013: The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mangalore has been ranked the top Diocese from among the 166 Catholic Dioceses of India. The details are made public by a famous survey team of the US in its website MyTopDozen.com.
As per the site, Mangalore Diocese by scoring 26 points tops the list followed by Kochi, Quilon, Lucknow, Kottar,Coimbatore, Vellore, Sambalpur, Varanasi, Kottapuram, Jabalpura and Mysore Dioceses. The website has claimed that the ranking is given based on the number of developmental programmes, various activities and initiatives in each of the Dioceses.
The website has opted its own criteria to rank the Dioceses and has conducted surveys on 14000 topics since the past few years.
Apart from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mangalore, another Diocese from the state-the Mysore Diocese has secured the twelfth position in the ranking.
Karnataka has a total of 10 Roman Catholic Dioceses out of the total 14 Dioceses. There are three Syro Malabar Dioceses (Belthangady, Mandya and Bhadravathi). There are 13 Bishops in Karnataka and 796 churches under 14 Dioceses.
That Mangalore Diocese could get the top honours in this ranking is a recognition of its alround performance and its constant endeavour to strive for the welfare of the Catholic community.
