Malpe, June 5, 2014 : Malpe police have arrested three persons on Wednesday June 4 on the charges of cheating Malpe Madhwaraj Trust of Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj by availing thousands of rupees of aid for education in a non-existent college, by producing fake documents.
The accused are Pradeep Kumar (27) of Brahmavar Harady, said to be the prime accused, Yogish (28) of Brahmavar Kolambe and Subrahmanya (22) of Chantharu. The three, it is learnt have cheated the Trust to the tune of Rs 64000. Police have seized a cash of Rs 36000 from them.
It is learnt, the prime accused Pradeep had sent eight youngsters to the Trust seeking aid for their education in Tallur Vadiraja Institute of Kundapur, which was non-existent. He had even opened an account in Vijaya Bank Tallur Branch by posing himself as the Proprietor of the Institute.
Meanwhile, the Trust had sanctioned a financial aid of Rs 8000 each to all the eight youth including Yogish and Subrahmanya for their educational purposes. The youth who handed over the cheque to Pradeep had availed a commission of Rs 1000 each from him.
The Trust authorities which later came to know about the cheating had lodged a complaint with Malpe police who have now succeeded in arresting the trio. The police are on the lookout for five others who colluded with Pradeep in the act.
Of the arrested, Yogish is an M.Com degree holder, while Subrahmanya is a Commerce graduate. Pradeep is said to have completed his PUC and computer diploma and was jobless.
The trio were produced before a court in Udupi and have been remanded to judicial custody till June 18.
