Transport related complaints heard at Transport Adalat Meet

Mangalore, April 5, 2012 : It was announced at the Transport Adalat Meet held today that a pre-paid auto rickshaw stand will be set up at Kankanady Railway Station soon.

Currently, there are pre-paid auto rickshaw stands at KSRTC Bus Stand and Mangalore Central Railway Station, and the proposal to set up a stand at the Kankanady Railway Station will be presented for approval at the next Road Transport Authority (RTA) meeting.

Within 10 days, new kiosks, shelters for the public, and computerized billing systems will be set up wherever there are pre-paid auto rickshaw stands in the city.

Besides, computerized billing will soon be made compulsory for private buses.

KSRTC bus services will be launched on a pilot basis from Kateel to Dharmasthala and also from Baikampady to Kankanady, it was decided.

Vijay Vikram, the joint commissioner of the RTO, responded to a complaint lodged by Uma Ganesh Hegde of Konchadi in Derebail, according to which only one rickety bus was available between State Bank and Konchady. He assured that another bus will soon be introduced for this route.

Nooyi Balakrishna Rao, a member of the Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi, placed before private bus owners, RTO officials, and the Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Association, several complaints. He even placed before the owners of private buses a plea to provide concession to senior citizens, in response to which the owners said that private buses do not have the government to take care of the finances. 

A member of an auto rickshaw union said that some people are running multiple auto rickshaws bearing the same registration numbers, in response to which RTO officials directed him to provide specific information about these illegal vehicles so that they can be caught.
