Transport Adalat : RTO urged to regularize all auto parks in Mangalore

 Mangalore, Jan16,2013 : At the Transport Adalat held at the RTO office in Mangalore on January 15, Tuesday, an appeal was made to the authorities to regularize all the  autorickshaw parks in  Mangalore.

Speaking at the  meeting, Prakash VN , leader of Autorickshaw Drivers’ Association said at present only 83 autorickshaw parks have been declared authorized in Mangalore. Pointing out that there were over 5000 autorickshaws operating in Mangalore, Prakash said an appeal made to the MCC to regularize the remaining 300 auto parks  three years ago, has not  yielded any favourable result.


He also urged the authorities to   fix a limit to the number of autorickshaws that can park in each  auto park. Another demand placed forth was to set up gas  pumps for autorickshaws in view of failure to supply LPG to autos on time.


Hanumanth Kamath, President of Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike  urged for early introduction of pre-paid  autorickshaw counters at Bejai KSRTC bus stand and at Mangalore Central and Mangalore Junction railway station.
 One of the participants urged for for steps to make it mandatory for buses to display their registration number as well as the owner’s mobile number  inside the buses in order to enable the public to complain against any misbehavior by the bus crew.


 Responding to this, the RTO Mallikarjun who presided over the meeting, said already steps have been initiated  to put up posters in 180 buses  requesting the public to complain to the RTO against rash and erratic driving and also against those drivers who speak over mobile phone while driving.


Complaint against KSRTC bus crew : Rafique hailing from Nekkilady in Puttur, complained to the RTO, on behalf of two students namely  Monika Khadija and Shifa that  the  conductor of a Mangalore-Uppinangady government bus had abused students with passes and asked them to get down, on January 1. Rafiq also demanded action against erring bus crew Jayarama Shekha, President of DK District Bus Operators’ Association, Rajavarma Ballal, President of Canara Bus Operators Association, Judith Mascarenhas, Nooyi Balakrishna Rao, and others were present.
