Mangalore, Aug 7: The Southern Railway authorities have expressed regrets that they are unable to run trains on schedule these monsoons.
S. K. Raina, the division manager, said that running trains on schedule is impossible because of frequent landslides along the Konkan railway during the monsoons. Since the Konkan Railway comes under the jurisdiction of the Konkan Railways, the Southern Railway cannot take any steps on its own. He said that, as the best solution to this problem, the Southern Railway is maintaining different schedules for monsoons and other seasons.
Regarding proposals for an underbridge across the railway level crossing at Jeppu Kudpady in Mangalore, Raina said that the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has to deposit 2 percent of the total cost as initial deposit under the cost-sharing agreement, but the MCC has failed to do so. He said that the railway will take immediate steps as soon as the MCC has deposited the amount.
He also said that two more Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevak (JTBS) counters will be set up at Mangalore Central Railway Station.
He informed that the new railway bridge across the River Nethravathi will be inaugurated in Dec 2011.
