Thousands witness Srinivasa Kalyana Mahotsava on Malpe shores

Malpe, Feb 11, 2013 : The celestial wedding of Lord Sri Balaji –Srinivasa Kalyana Mahotsava was  held on the auspicious muhurtham of Godhuli Lagnam at the Malpe sea shores on February 10,  Sunday in the presence of thousands of devotees.

The  event was held under the aegis of the Malpe Srinivasa Kalyanotsava Samithi. The Utsava Murthis had arrived from Sri Tirupathi Kshetra a couple of days ago.


The  recital of hymns by a team of vedic scholars who have specially arrived from Tirupathi and also the blowing of the Nagaswara gave a special charm to the event. Various wedding related rituals including  Punyahavachana, Ankurarpana, Navadhanya Pooja, Kankanadi Bandha etc were performed.


 The Sankalpa was offered  by Hiriyanna T Kidiyoor, fishermen leader and MLA Raghupathi Bhat on behalf of the bride and Dr G Shanker and Prasad Ghar, Secretary to Andhra CM, on behalf of the groom.


The silk saree sent by the Lord of the Ocean through the fishermen was offered  to the brides and the Srinivasa Kalyanotsava concluded with  a symbolic celestial wedding ceremony of Sri Balaji with his consorts, Sri Sridevi (Goddess Padmavati) and Sri Bhudevi.


Various dignitaries including Gururaj Acharya, President of Tirupathi Temple Trust,  Kalyanotsav Samithi President Dr G Shanker, Committee Vice President and Block Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj, Jaya C Kotian,  and others were present.


Over half a lakh devotees attended the ceremony, Tirupathi Laddoos were offered as Prasadam to all the devotees.


As per tradition, the jewels and other requirements of the bride, offered by Samudra Raja to his daughter Padmavathi were brought  by fishermen to the Malpe shores in 11 large fishing boats which were tastefully decorated.


Later they were brought to the venue of the Kalyanotsava in a procession by fisher women. Yet another special attraction was the fireworks show in the midst of the sea.
