Thousands of devotees flock Sri Venkatramana Temple for Sahasra Kumbhabhisheka

Mangalore, Feb 2, 2013: Sri Venkatramana Temple at Carstreet in Mangalore is thronged by thousands of devotees from far and near for the Sahasra Kumbhabhisheka being held at the Temple as part of the first anniversary of the Punar Pratishta  Brahmakalashotsava following the renovation of the temple.

On February 2, Saturday, the second day of the festivities, various rituals including Bimba Shuddhi, Jaladhivasa, Panchamritha Abhisheka, Sahasradharam Ekottara Shathakalashabhisheka were offered to the idols of the presiding deity  by the priests.

A Tantra Sarokta Mandala in varied colours has been specially put up in front of the temple in connection with the Punar Pratishta Vardhanthi of  Lord Sri Veera Venkatesha, the presiding deity of the temple. Kalasha Abhimantrana  will be held after placing 1008 silver and copper kalashas on this mandala on Kumbhabhisheka day on February 3, Sunday.

On February 3, the rituals  will begin at 3.30 am  with mahaprarthana, Ganga Poojana  etc. From 9 am onwards the Sahasra Kumbhabhisheka rituals will be offered by Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji, the Senior Swamiji of Kashi Mutt Samsthan and Srimad Samyameendra Theertha Swamiji, the Junior Seer. At 12 noon there will be Pradhana Kalashabhisheka, Prasanna Pooja, Ashta Mangala Nirikshane and Patta Kanike offering. There will also be Maha Poornahuti of the Yajna, Gurubhikshe, Brahmana Santharpane and Bhoori Samaradhane.

The festivities will conclude with a  public function  in the magnificent podium in front of the temple at 7.30 pm on Sunday in the presence of the two seers.

As part of the cultural programmes, a Triveni Sangama programme by Pandit Upendra Bhat, Vinayaka Prabhu Mumbai and Shanker Shanbagh was held on February 1, Friday evening. On February 2, Saturday night there will be a devotional songs programme  by internationally acclaimed singer Anuradha Podwal.
