Reportedly, they broke open the north door of the temple and then broke into the temple office to steal the cash and valuables, which were kept in a cupboard there. The gang had broken a total of six locks at the temple.

The temple priest, who arrived at the temple on the morning of August 22, Wednesday, to offer puja, noticed that the temple was broken into.

Among the items stolen were a 32gm rudraksha garland, a bangle, another 8gm garland, a small karimani chain, and Rs. 90,000 in cash. However, the thieves did not touch the silver ornaments.

The police feel that the robbery was planned well in advance by people familiar with the temple. The burglar alarm installed at the temple had not been functioning for a week, and the temple was in the process of installing CCTV cameras and appointing security guards. Police suspect that the thieves knew of this.

The temple was broken into six years back, but so far the thieves have not been caught.
