Mangalore, Nov 30: The Mangalore Chapter of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) organized an interactive meet with J Crasta, the president of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), Bangalore, to discuss the issues and challenges facing trade and industry in DK district.

J Crasta said that Dakshina Kannada is a banking cradle of 4 nationalized banks, which are contributing a great deal toward the country’s financial growth and development. He said: “The district has made significant progress in the education and medical sector. A large number of students, both from home and abroad, are getting educated here.”

He further said that, despite the fact that major IT industries and BPO’s have set up base in the district, it has not yet developed its tourism sector, labour-intensive industries such as toys, packing and repacking, garments, areca nut, cashew nut, coconut-based products, bulk import trading, and exporting.

He said that the potentials of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) in Karnataka must be realized by manufacturing products for export. The Mangalore Airport can also be used to quickly deliver perishable flowers and sea food overseas, he said. 

KCCI President Srinivas S Kamath, Vice President G G Mohandas Prabhu, Secretary B Chandrakanth Rao, Treasurer Latha R Kini, and President of the Kanara Small Industries Association President K Jayaraj Pai were the dignitaries on the dais.
