Mangaluru, Nov 15, 2022: Members of the Dakshina Kannada District Taxi and Maxi Cab Association staged a protest in front of the RTO office in the city on November 15, Tuesday demanding fulfilment of several of their demands.

Addressing the protestors, M Dinesh Kumpala, President of the Association, said it was condemnable on the part of the KSRTC to start Deepavali tour packages without paying special tax or securing permit from the RTO. Such package tours hits hard taxi and maxi cab drivers  and incur losses to them, he said. He also demanded that the government and private companies while availing tourist vehicles on contract must choose local vehicles from the district. He also urged for measures to prevent autorickshaw drivers with permits to operate in the city, to ferry passengers outside the city limits.

He further took exception to the doubling of parking fee at Mangaluru International Airport where there is a board stating first 10 minutes parking is free for private vehicles and taxis are collected a fee of Rs 90 even though they depart the place within a minute.

Office bearers of the Association namely Pramod Ullal, Uday Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Karunaker Kuntikan, Harish Shetty, Latif, Nagappa Adyar and others were present.
