Mangaluru, Aug 13, 2022: Crew of the private buses operating on the Talapady route resorted to a lightning strike on Saturday to condemn the police action of taking a driver into custody for questioning the fine imposed on him for overspeeding.

Talapady

Robert Lasrado, ASI of Mangaluru South Traffic Police Station who was on rounds in Talapady, on noticing the overspeeding Route No. 42 bus had stopped the bus and had imposed a fine of Rs 1000. The bus conductor refused to pay the fine saying they did not over speed. Later based on the complaint of the ASI, the bus driver Basavaraj was taken into custody by the Ullal police leading to the lightning protest.

Bus crew say there is no scope for overspeeding as there is a checkpost at Talapady. They also alleged that the traffic police were filing cases against the bus crew daily and threatened to continue the protest if  Basavaraj was not released.

The lightning strike has left passengers in the lurch and have forced them to rely on government buses.
