Subrahmanya, Sep 18, 2013 : An elderly man who was leading a solitary life at Uppukala in Balugodu village near here was found murdered on September 17, Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Parameshwara Gowda (70). It is suspected that the assailants tied his hands and legs,gagged him and then smothered him to death. Police suspect that this was a murder for monetary gains.
Gowda who had lost his wife 14 years ago was living all alone in his farm house at Balugodu since then. His daughter was married and his son Satish was living at Kaikamba. The murder came to light when Ganapayya who used to attend to farm works in Gowda’s farm, arrived for work on September 17, Tuesday morning after a two day leave. He immediately informed the police who arrived with finger print experts and dog squad.
Gowda’s forehead and knees bore injury marks. With the things in the drawer of a nearby table found scattered all around, police strongly feel this is a murder for gain.
Police have found a scythe abandoned in a field near the house. The worker Ganapayya has said that this did not belong to his employer.
Senior police officials including Additional SP Shivakumar, Puttur DySP Sadananda Varnekar, Sullia Circle Inspector Sudarshan and Subrahmanya sub-inspector Kushalappa Gowda visited the spot.
