Stray Dogs Kill Five Goats in Katapady, Residents Demand Immediate Action

Udupi, July 19, 2026: Five goats, including two kids, were killed after a pack of stray dogs allegedly entered a goat shed at Achchad in Katapady during the early hours of Saturday, triggering fresh concerns over the rising stray dog menace in the area.

The incident took place at the residence of retired teacher Vitthal Sherigar, where his son Prashanth rears goats. According to reports, the dogs broke into the shed before dawn and mauled the animals to death, causing losses estimated to be worth several thousand rupees.

Residents said stray dogs have become a persistent nuisance around the Achchad Male Jumadi Daivasthana, posing a threat to livestock as well as to the public. The growing number of stray dogs has also raised fears among parents over the safety of children commuting to school.

Locals have urged the authorities to take immediate and effective measures to control the stray dog population before a more serious incident occurs.
