Udupi, Sep 5, 2013 : If strangers frequently robbed train passengers by offering them eatables laced with intoxicants, in a latest instance reported from Udupi, some people from Rajasthan have managed to rob cash from a lodge in the town after offering a laddu laced with intoxicant to the receptionist.
The incident that took place on the night of August 21 has come to light of late.
As per reports, five people from Rajasthan had arrived at the lodge on August 17 and had hired a room saying they had come on a sight seeing visit. It is learnt, they had befriended the lodge staff by chatting with them during free time.
Accordingly on the night of August 21, at around 11.15 pm one of them had approached the cashier (receptionist) and had offered him laddu saying his son had got a job in Rajasthan. No sooner, the cashier ate the laddu he fell asleep. The stranger soon took possession of the drawer key and had robbed the cash in the drawer. Luckily, the lodge owner had taken much of the cash and had retained only Rs 2000 in the drawer.
Though the robbing of the cash has not been captured in the CC camera as the cheats had managed to cover the CC camera with the receptionist’s clothes, their movement in the lodge on other days had been captured on camera and may be helpful in the probe.
The lodge owner has also said no complaint has been lodged as the stolen cash was less. However, he said he would co-operate if the police decide to take up the case voluntarily.
