State level NSS camp for girls inaugurated

Udupi, Nov 6, 2013 : A state level  special NSS camp for  girls was inaugurated at St Lawrence Pre-University College on November 5, Tuesday by State Minister for Urban Development and Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake.

The camp to be held from November 5 to 11 is organised by the Pre-University Education Department, National Service Scheme and the  College.

In his inaugural address, Sorake said participation in NSS activities goes a long way in empowering women and helping them  work on equal footing with men. He said the  ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and the vision of Swami Vivekananda should serve as an inspiration to present day youth.

State Minister for Youth Services Abhayachandra Jain administered the oath to the participant students.

K Jayaprakash Hegde, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP  also spoke on the occasion. Dr Gerald Isac Lobo,  Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Rev Alexander F Lobo, Founder of St Lawrence College, Upendra Nayak, Udupi ZP President,.  Fr Joswy Fernandes, Correspondent of St Lawrence Institutions, Moodbidri,  Fr Paul Sequeira, Principal of St Lawrence PU College,  Edward Larsen, NSS camp officer and others were present.
