Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Mar 12 ,2012: Accusing the BJP-led state government of “attempting to destabilize the Lokayukta,” G. Parameshwar, the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), said that the government is delaying the Lokayukta appointment as it is terrified of the Lokayukta’s investigations against BJP ministers on the mining scam.

Addressing reporters on Sunday, the Congressman said that the government must justify its delay in the appointment of the Lokayukta. He also pointed out that the government has failed to take any action on Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde’s report. Demanding to know for sure if the government has accepted or rejected it, he said that the government must also cite reasons for its acceptance or rejection. Revealing that the report has charged around 187 officials, he said that the government has not taken action against any of these officials.

He also demanded that the government must furnish an account of funds it has promised to religious institutions. He revealed that Yeddyurappa has given Rs. 397 crore when he was the CM and now Sadananda Gowda has promised Rs. 3 crore to a religious institution. He said that it is the assembly that must approve the release of funds exceeding Rs. 2 crore.

He also said that the central government has released as much as Rs. 4,250 crore to the state under the natural calamity relief fund during the last four years, but the state government has released only Rs. 250 crore. He urged the state government to work against eliminating the drought situation in 123 taluks across the state.

He also stated that Sunil Kumar, the BJP candidate for the Udupi – Chikmagalur by polls, is involved in cases such as the murder of Padmapriya, the Dattapeeta issue, and others, besides being an active Bajrang Dal member.

He urged voters to select non corrupt, people friendly candidates without any criminal background.
