St. Aloysius College organizes national seminar on Indian women writers in English

Mangalore, Feb 19, 2012: The Department of English, St. Aloysius College organized a national seminar titled “Indian Women Writers in English” in Eric Mathaias Hall on Feb 18 Saturday in commemoration of the 25th year of the presence of women in the college. 

Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Lourdusamy, the head of the English PG Department and the convener of the event, said that the objective of the seminar is to celebrate the presence of women students for the past 25 years and to honor women for their contributions to English literature.

He said that delegates and participants from states such as Manipur, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are participating in this event. 

Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, the rector of St. Aloysius Institutions, released “Book of Abstracts.”
Ratan Mohunta, the head of the English UG department, delivered the welcome address. Alok Bejai, English lecturer, delivered the vote of thanks. There was an audio visual presentation on the special features of the college in general and the English department in particular. 

The resource persons were Giselle Mehta, the writer, and Dr. Meena T. Pillai, the professor of the University of Kerala. Ms. Mehta delivered the keynote address on “Reversal of Gender Stereotypes in Contemporary Women’s Writings.” Dr. Pillai presented the lead paper “Women and Autobiographies.” 

Around 40 participants presented papers on this occasion.
