Mangaluru, Aug 01, 2022: The Post Graduate Department of English at St. Agnes College organised a workshop on "English for Specific Purposes" on July 22nd, 2022. The workshop, which dealt with the use of English in journalism, was conducted in two sessions. The first session was handled by Brian Fernandes, Director, Spearhead Media Pvt. Ltd. He spoke about the importance of the media and media skills. His session included several ideas, like the working of mass media and its influence on the world.

The second session was addressed by Mahesh Nayak, Executive Editor, Mangalore Today English Monthly. This address was about how to write a news report and included inputs on the structure of a news report, methods of collecting news, and finally about publishing the report.

The convenor of the workshop, Dr Malini Hebbar, planned the workshop to offer the students a hands-on experience to gain new and practical information. The resource persons, Mr. Fernandes and Mr. Nayak, were apt professionals to train the MA English students and develop skills in language application in the industry.

Anna Una Crasta, Assistant Professor, made the opening remarks on the need and relevance of this workshop. The workshop was attended by Dr Zubaida, HOD; Raveena Mascarenhas, a faculty member; and students of MA English. Student representatives Abdul Samad and Pooja C. introduced the resource people.
