Udupi, Aug 29, 2013 : Sri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in a grand way with great religious fervour in various parts of the district on August 28, Wednesday, Udupi, where the famous Sri Krishna Mutt is located, saw thousands of devotees from far and near who had thronged the temple town to offer prayers to Lord Krishna.
Sri Vishwa Vallabha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sri Sode Vadiraja Mutt offered Tulasi Archane to Lord Sri Krishna on August 28, Wednesday night and did Krishnarghya Pradana at midnight in the presence of thousands of devotees. A long queue of devotees was seen at the temple since morning.
Earlier in the morning after the Mahapooja, the Paryaya seer did the Muhurtham for the process of rolling laddoos for the Naivedya. Around 60 cooks prepared one lakh chakkulis and two lakh laddoos and the same were distributed to devotees after the pooja in the night.
Non-stop Bhajans: Throughout the day there was non-stop Bhajans programme at Vasanth Mahal by different Bhajan troupes. The inaugural of the Bhajans programme was done by Padigaru Srinivas Tantri, Diwan of Paryaya Mutt. There was also Nagaswara recital by Shimoga Krishnamurthi and team.
Veshadharis including Huli Veshadharis were seen in the temple town on Wednesday.
Vitlapindi today : The famous Vitlapindi (Sri Krishna Leelotsava) will be held at Sri Krishna Mutt on August 29, Thursday.
There will be Anna Santarpane for the public from 10 am to 3 pm followed by Bhajans. Vittlapindi celebrations will be held at 3 p.m. Contests for different Veshadharis will be held later on.
