Belthangady, Nov 27, 2013 : Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar will now light up the lives of several families in Naxal affected remote areas of Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. Not many may be aware that Sachin has joined hands with Schneider Electric Foundation of France to provide cheap, efficient and eco-friendly electrification in the rural areas of the country.
Under an initiative called `Spreading Happiness`they intend to provide access to rural electrification by installing solar home lighting systems for the benefit of over 25,000 villagers in India. Under the scheme, solar panel, battery and other equipment are provided free of cost. Already 150 families in Kollur village, 28 families in Chittur village and 100 families in Jadkal village have benefitted from the facility which was distributed to them on November 16.
As many as 202 families in the Naxal affected Malavanthige village in Belthangady will be distributed the solar kits on November 30 under the scheme. Spreading Happiness intends to distribute the facility to a total of 457 families in Malavanthige, Aladangady and Naravi.
It is a fact that these places have remained backward with many of the government facilities not poor living in remote places. The service initiative is done under the guidance of Dr Shalini Sherin, the India partner of Schneider Electric with the active co-operation of cricket icon Sachin. The entire cost of the facilities is borne by Sachin himself.
Volunteers of the Foundation have conducted a survey in the remote villages to identify the beneficiaries, says Prashanth Shetty, South India in-charge of the Foundation.
`Spreading Happiness` is a small step towards changing lives and bringing smiles to the faces of many people in the country. `Spreading Happiness` is a sincere effort of the master blaster to positively impact the present and future of the people who are an integral part of the real India.
