Mangalore, June 05, 2014: An accident wherein a speeding Eicher Tempo knocked down a six year old boy at Gurupur injuring him seriously, sparked flash protest by locals. The mishap occurred on June 5, Thursday morning when Rohit, a first standard student of Pompei School was waiting for the school van along with his mother. The tempo driver fled the scene   soon after the mishap.

The boy has been rushed to a hospital and sources say he has succumbed to his injuries. However, the news is yet to be ascertained.

In the meantime, the mishap triggered protests by angry locals who damaged the  tempo that caused the mishap and also burnt tyres. The protestors also blocked the road resulting in a traffic snarl.

Some of the protestors also pointed out how the demand to widen the road at Gurupur  was never heeded  to citing the presence of shrines enroute and stating that the project cannot take off unless the authorities of the  shrines decide to give up land.

The angry protestors also demanded that the DC, MLA and MP  arrive at the spot and take stock of the situation. Police are at the spot trying to control the situation.

Hope the little boy is safe and out of danger. Widening roads in many areas would prevent accidents such as this.
