Belthangady, Oct.11, 2012: The Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a massive protest at Ujire Circle on October 11, Thursday, demanding justice in the case of Sowjanya (17), who was found raped and murdered on Oct 10, Wednesday.
Ramesh K., state secretary of the ABVP, said in his protest address that the police must investigate the case thoroughly and arrest the culprits. An atmosphere that enables girl students to walk freely on the streets must be created and maintained, he said.
A large number of students from Belthangady Government PU College, Government First Grade College, Kalpatharu College, Prasanna Education Trust, and SDM PU and Degree Colleges also took part in the protest. Besides, local people and self-help groups also took part.
Among those present were former MLA Prabhakar Bangera; Sharada Rai, BJP taluk president; Mamatha Shetty, president of the TP; Kushalappa Gowda, APMC president; and many others.
The SFI and DYFI have announced that they will organize a protest in Belthangady on Oct 12, Friday. Meanwhile, police sources have revealed that the police have arrested certain suspects and are interrogating them.
