Mangalore, Oct 16, 2012: Oscar Fernandes, senior Congress leader and general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), announced that Sonia Gandhi, president of the Indian National Congress, will take part in the Congress workers’ convention, which is scheduled to be held in Town Hall on Oct 18, Thursday.
Addressing reporters at a press meet held in the office of the district Congress on Oct 16, he said that Congress leaders will directly interact with Congress workers at the grass root level during this convention. The purpose of the convention is also to encourage the GP members, corporators, candidates, leaders, and workers to do their best for the party, he added.
Although there is only one seat at the state-level for a Congress candidate, Congress workers have plenty of opportunities to become presidents at the booth level, women’s wing, Seva Dal, youth win, NSUI, minorities wing, SC/ST wing, workers’ wing,and others, he said.
Suggesting that the party must work in two groups, one for the booth level and one for above the booth level, he said that Congress workers can also use technology to popularize the party and take it to great heights. He also urged party workers to provide BPL cards and ration cards for people who badly need it.
