Mangalore, Feb 17, 2012: Shree Padre, a pioneer in water harvesting and Peter Lewis, the renowned artist, are among those who have bagged the Sandesh Awards 2012 conferred by Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education. The awards will be conferred on the winners at an awards ceremony, which is scheduled to be held on Feb 26 by the Karnataka Catholic Bishop’s Council.
Fr. Valerian Mendonca, the director of Sandesha, told reporters at a press meet held on Thursday that Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore, will preside over the event and Vaidehi, the well-known Kannada writer, will be the chief guest. Rev. Dr. Henry D’Souza, the bishop of Bellary and the chairman of Sandesha, will also be present.
He also said that 10 awards will be conferred on 10 achievers, each award comprising Rs. 10,000, a shawl, a citation, and a trophy.
Dr. Na D’Souza, the president of the selection committee, announced the list of awardees.
Awardees List
The Sandesha Kannada Literature Award will be conferred on Dr. K. V. Thirumalesh, a Kannada writer who has to his credit 30 works, among which are anthologies of poems and short stories, collections of columns and reviews, novels, and works on linguistics.
The Sandesha Konkani Literature Award will be conferred on M. Madhava Pai, whose greatest contribution is the 750-page Kannada – Konkani Dictionary.
The Sandesha Literature Award will be conferred on Catherine Rodrigues, who has to her credit 57 Tulu dramas. She has won the Late Dharmasthala Ratnavarma Heggade Tulu Drama Writing Competition 10 times.
The Sandesha Cinema Award will be conferred on Geethapriya aka Laxman Rao Mohite, a movie personality, a lyric writer, story writer, dialogue writer, and movie director.
The Sandesha Arts Award will be conferred on Peter Lewis, an internationally acclaimed artist whose art exhibition in Texas, USA made him famous all over the world.
The Sandesha Journalism Award will be conferred on Indudhara Honnapura, the editor of Honnapura Samvada, a monthly.
The Sandesha Media Education Award will be conferred on Shree Padre of Kasaragod, a widely known agriculturist, who greatest interest is rain harvesting.
The Sandesha Best Teacher Award will be conferred on Rev. Sr. Maria Jyothi AC for services rendered to special children.
The Sandesha Konkani Music Award will be conferred on Late Shri Jerome D’Souza, who has to his credit over 1000 songs, 14 music albums, and 2 anthologies titled Amchim Podam.
The Sandesha Special Recognition Award will be conferred on John D’Silva, educationist, philanthropist, and cooperative banker.
