Shankar Murthy and Ganesh Karnik begin campaign for council elections

Mangalore, May 16, 2012 : Legislative Council Chairman D. H. Shankar Murthy, who is contesting for the state legislative council elections from the graduates’ constituency, said that he is confident of winning in the south west graduates’ and teachers’ constituency.


 

Speaking at a press meet held at the office of the district unit of the BJP on May 15, Tuesday, he said that the BJP has covered 22 of the 29 assembly segments it planned to cover in its constituency. He said that BJP activists plan to hold corner meetings to enhance awareness about the achievements of the political party as it is difficult to interact personally with each voter.

He said that the BJP has generated 65,000 jobs for graduates in the state, ensuring that they get employed as soon as they get their degree.

Stating that his campaign was very successful, he said that voters received him with great affection and wished him well with his campaign.

He also said that he has printed and distributed 3.5 lakh forms to various colleges to encourage graduates and teachers to join the constituency.

Admitting that there are internal clashes within the BJP, he said that these clashes have never come in the way of the state’s development. Instead, the state has witnessed a lot of development under the BJP-led state government, he claimed.

Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly; Monappa Bhandary, BJP spokesperson; Padmanabha Kottary, president of the district unit of the BJP; Captain Ganesh Karnik, who is contesting from the south west teachers’ constituency; and Shrikar Prabhu, president of the city unit of the BJP, were also present.
