Seva Dal workers honor founder Narayan Subbarao Hardekar

Mangalore, May 7, 2012: The Seva Dal paid tributes to Narayana Subbarao Hardekar, the founder of the Seva Dal, on the occasion of his birth anniversary at the office of the District Congress on May 7 Monday. 

Under the leadership of Haji M. H. Ashraf T., the president of the Akhila Bharatha Congress Seva Dal, the members garlanded the portrait of Narayana Subbarao Hardikar.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ashraf recalled the services of Hardekar, who founded the Seva Dal during the Kakinada session of the Indian National Congress in 1923 under the influence of Lala Lajpat Rai and Bal Gangadhar Tilak. 

The objective of the Seva Dal is to train and discipline youth so that they would fight for the freedom of the country. 

Hardekar, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha twice from 1952 to 1962, was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1958. 

Speaking on the occasion, Congress leader Shashidhar Hegde said that the Seva Dal is a very important part of the Congress and can be considered as its other name. Revealing the Congress’s intentions to strengthen its Seva Dal, he said that the country is well-protected because of the patriotism and discipline of the Seva Dal workers.
