Science exam fear drives SSLC student to commit suicide

Mangalore, Apr 5, 2012  : A 16-year-old SSLC student of St. Joseph High School committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan in his room with a saree on April 4 Wednesday.


rajith 1The deceased is Ranjith of Jayanagar, the second son of Jayanthi and Raghava Poojary. He is believed to have committed suicide out of fear of the upcoming science exam on April 5 Thursday.

Ranjith has an elder brother Rakshith and a younger brother Karthik.

The Kankanady Rural Police say that he was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room at 11:30 a.m. Since he had closed the door from the inside, the tiles of the roof had to be removed to enter the room and retrieve his body.

His body has now been taken for post mortem to Wenlock Hospital.

Ranjith has left behind a note, stating that he is committing suicide out of fear of his science exam. He also expressed a desire that his final rites had to be done by Kripala, his aunt’s 4-year-old son. He also mentioned the names of all his school friends and wished them well and advised his younger brother Karthik to study well. He also sought forgiveness from his parents for taking this extreme step.

Reportedly, Ranjith visited a Nagabana nearby shortly before committing suicide.

A case has been registered at the Kankanady Rural Police Station.
