Sandesha Foundation honors 3 journalists on Kannada Press Day

Mangalore, July 1, 2012: Sandesha Foundation honored Steven Rego of Vijaya Karnataka, Shahnaz M. of Anupama, and Laxmi Machchina of Udayavani for their journalistic contributions at a special program held on the occasion of Kannada Press Day today.

P. B. Harish Rai, president of DK Kannada Working Journalists’ Association, was the chief guest of the occasion. Expressing his appreciation of the foundation, he said that it is a nice gesture on the part of the foundation to recognize the contributions of young journalists.

He also said that the Kannada Press Day happens to coincide with World Doctors’ Day. Speaking about the similarities between the role of doctors and journalists, he said that journalists try to eliminate social ills just as doctors try to eliminate diseases from the human body. Besides, both work day and night without rest, he added.

Simultaneously, Harish Rai also lamented that today’s reporters do not understand that their profession is a noble one, adding that they are spreading darkness instead of trying to disseminate the correct news.
