Speaking at the convention, Kumaraswamy said that the party will focus on farmer welfare and has designed a number of projects for farmers. Expressing hopes that the people of DK will support the JD(S) this time, he said that he feels quite confident about the party’s victor when he sees the number of people who are attending the convention.

Flaying the BJP and the Congress, he said that the JD(S) will not allow these parties to undermine it. Criticizing Sonia Gandhi, he said that she hardly presented any issue or raised any concern to win over the people’s trust; instead, she advised her party workers to stay united and criticized the BJP. He said that a national party must not stoop to such a level, where it has no political strategy left, but to point fingers of blame at the other parties.

Criticizing the Congress, he said that the Congress has done nothing during the past 4 years, but criticize the BJP. Only the JD(S) has proved to be the real opposition party in the state, he added.

Flaying B. S. Yeddyurappa, former CM of Karnataka, who claimed that he would surpass Gujarath CM Narendra Modi if given five years, he said that the state’s loan has gone up from Rs. 50,000 crore to Rs. 1.16 lakh crore when BSY was in power. VAT tax was raised from 12% to 14% and widow and handicap pension schemes introduced by the JD(S) were stopped. Although the media has highlighted the plight of Endosulphan victims, the government has done nothing, he added.

Attacking Union Petroleum Minister Dr. Veerappa Moily, he said that Moily’s political calculations regarding Karnataka will not work.

M. C. Nanaiah, the JD(S) leader, addressed the gathering and said that the Congress has become an unwanted party and the BJP, which boasted that it would bring about a much-needed change, has done nothing but create unrest. He predicted that the BJP will one day recall BSY, promising him that it will contest under his leadership.

Speaking on the occasion, Madhu Bangarappa, youth president of the state JD(S), said that the JD(S), if voted to power, will work for the welfare of the poor and the farmers.

Among those present were MLA Zameer Ahmed, Amarnath Shetty, Devi Prasad Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty, and others.

The party also observed Valmiki Jayanthi on this occasion.
