Mangalore, July 4, 2012 : The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) organized a protest in front of Mangalore Central Railway Station on Wednesday against the change in timings of the Cheruvathur to Mangalore passenger train.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Nithin Kumar Kuthar, district president of the SFI, said that the changes in the timings of this train has created a lot of problems for daily commuters between Karnataka and Kerala.
According to the earlier schedule, the train would leave Cheruvathur at 6:30 a.m. and reach Mangalore at 8:30 a.m. daily, but according to the revised schedule, the train leaves Cheruvathur at 7:00 a.m. and reaches Mangalore at 9:00 a.m. The delay has made things very difficult for hundreds of students who rely on this train to reach their colleges in time. Several students are in danger of facing attendance shortage because of this delay, he added.
Besides, a number of people travel from Kerala to Mangalore daily for work and have to reach their office by 9:00 a.m., he said.
He demanded that the train should be run as per the previous schedule and warned that the SFI will intensify its protests if the concerned authorities fail to satisfy its demands.
Later, the SFI submitted a memorandum to the officials of the Palakkad Railway Division.
