Mangalore, July 14, 2012 : The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) organized a protest in front of the DC’s office on July 12, Thursday, during which it placed several demands before the government.

District SFI President Nithin Kuttar said on the occasion that, although the RTE has provided 25 percent reservation for poor children in private schools, deserving children are still being deprived of seats. He alleged that schools are admitting children from families they are acquainted with. He also demanded that the DC must set up a committee to curb the donation menace in education institutions. 


Speaking about the injustice meted out to guest lecturers, Mr. Kuttar said that the government must solve their problems and fill all vacant teachers’ posts immediately. 


Speaking on the occasion, SFI District Secretary Razzaq Montepadavu said that many schools and colleges in the district still lack proper facilities. Besides, students and teachers in several educational institutions have not yet received text books.


He also urged the government to take steps to prevent sexual harassment of students in educational institutions. The SFI then submitted a memorandum to the DC.
