SDPI accuses cops of misusing power; demands action

Mangalore, Jan 15, 2013:   The Dakshina Kannada unit of the Social Democratic Party of India has accused some police officers of misusing power and has demanded action against them.

The organization even staged a protest in front of the DC office in Mangalore on January 14, Monday in support of its demand and also urged the Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar to initiate action against the guilty.


Addressing the protestors, Aboobakker Kulai, an SDPI member alleged that he was imprisoned for a month by Mangalore rural police for no fault by fixing him in a false robbery case. He also accused  ACP TR Jagannath, Inspector Ravish Nayak, ASI Seetharam and constable Melwyn Pinto for  being  responsible for his arrest.


On his experience while in prison, Aboobakker said a policy of discrimination was pursued while treating Muslim and Hindu prisoners.


He also stated that he will try to expose the misdeeds of some police officials through RTI query.


 District SDPI President Abdul Jaleel,Chief Secretary Akbar Ali, State Committee Member  Anwar Sadath and others were   on the dais.
