SC woman accuses employer of harassing her

Mangalore, May 14, 2012: Saroja of Kemral, a daily wage earner at a farm belonging to Narayan Shetty, alleged at a press meet held in the press club on May 14, Monday that her employer is not paying her properly.

Saroja, who belongs to the scheduled caste, alleged that Narayan Shetty is constantly harassing her and paying her a meager wage of Rs. 100 or Rs. 200 every week only when she asks for it. She alleged that Mr. Shetty verbally abused her and threatened to kill her if she dared to demand the entire salary due to her.


She said that she had requested Mr. Shetty to pay her the amount due to her as she wished to quit the job. On May 3, Mr. Shetty allegedly invited her to his house. When she arrived, a group of 5 women and 4 men beat her up with footwear. Her husband then admitted her to the Mulky Government Hospital.


When Narayan Salian and Vishnu Kumar, DSS leaders, heard of this incident, they visited the victim in hospital and promised her justice.


Saroja further said that the police took her statement when she was in hospital and registered a case, after which Narayan Shetty began forcing her to withdraw the case. When she refused to do so, Dinesh Ulipadi’s assistant lawyer visited her and forcibly took her signature on a blank sheet of paper, she alleged.


She also clarified that DSS leaders have neither demanded any money nor threatened anybody with regard to her case. She has urged the media to help her get justice.
