SC, ST men holding strategic posts must be kept out of reservation : CT Ravi

Mangalore, Jan19,2013: State Minister for Higher Education CT Ravi has made a strong case for excluding the SC ST community men and their families who enjoy higher positions, from the purview of reservation.

He was speaking after distributing laptops to 36 SC ST students pursuing doctoral studies sand research at Mangalore University on January 18, Friday. Even the inclusion of the creamy layer of the SC ST community in the reservation system has deprived many others who are in dire need of reservation, the minister pointed out.

The Minister further said the various facilities provided by the government with a view to uplift the socially and economically and oppressed sections of the society, should be considered a one time assistance and not a permanent solution to their problem.

Prof. TC Shivashankeramurthi, Vice Chancellor, who presided over the function said the number of SC ST students pursuing education in the university has doubled this year compared to previous year. MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik was the chief guest. Dr PS Yadapadittaya, Registrar, Umeshchandra, Special Officer of SC/ST Cell were also present.
