Subramanya, Aug 6, 2011 : Owing to the continuous rainfall in the twin districts, the river Kumaradhara has overflowed into Subrahmanya, inconveniencing thousands of devotees. The water flowed on Subrahmanya road, blocking traffic and preventing pedestrians from using the road. The Cholugulu Jodi bridge on Harihara Kollamogra road was also submerged, blocking traffic.

The river water also flooded the Uppinangady Subramanya Road at Nettana, and if the rains continue, the bridge across Kaikambe Hole is also expected to be submerged.

Manjaiah Shetty’s house in Talapady has been completely damaged, Dechamma’s cowshed has been partially damaged in Mulki, and Geetha Nayak’s kutcha house has been damaged in Bajal. In Kolnadu, a house belonging to Koragappa Madivala has been damaged. Besides, Attavar witnessed a landslide and a tree in Kodialbail fell, blocking traffic for a long time.

During the last 24 hours, DK received a rainfall of 5.6mm and Sullia got the highest rainfall of 74.2mm, while Puttur, Mangalore, Belthangady, and Bantwal recorded rainfall of 74mm, 57.6mm, 40.8mm, and 36.4mm.

Owing to the heavy rainfall in Udupi, part of a house belonging to Seetha Bai has collapsed.

During the last 24 hours, Udupi recorded an average rainfall of 29.3mm, while Karkala, Kundapura, and Udupi witnessed rainfall of 38.4mm, 31.4mm, and 18.2mm.

Met Warning

The Met has warned of heavy rainfall in certain areas in coastal Karnataka during the next 48 hours. The fishermen have been especially warned not to go for fishing during the next 24 hours.
