Mangalore, Aug 9, 2011: A team of 31 international rickshaw racers, who are participating in the Rickshaw Challenge Mumbai Express 2011, will leave Mangalore for Mysore on Tuesday. They were flagged off at Mumbai on July 30 and expect to reach Chennai on Aug 12. The racers have formed 14 teams and intend to cover 1,919km during this 14-day race.
The racers hail from Chile, UK, Australia, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, and Canada. So far, they have covered 1,176kms and have to cover 743kms more during the next four days. They will cover Mysore, Bangalore, and Vellore on their way to Chennai. Their journey is more challenging than ever because they have not been provided equipment or maps to help them on the way.
The event is not just an adventure race, but also a fund raiser. The national partner of the Rickshaw Challenge, Round Table India, has raised more than €1.5 lakh, which will be used on various development projects.
The grand prize is a free entry for two people to the Caucasian Challenge, a 6000km race across 11 European countries, featuring photo competitions and treasure hunts.
