Mangalore, March 28, 2012 : Mr. Narendra Nayak, Mangalore-based rationalist and founder of the DK Rationalist Association, surprised an audience of over 50 students of the Teachers’ Training Institute in Balmatta, by materializing ash, Rs. 100 notes, and gold chains out of thin air. He had been invited by the Science Club of the Teachers’ Training Institute in Balmatta to conduct a 2-hour session on the paranormal and the supernatural on March 27 Tuesday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Mr. Nayak was warmly welcomed by the Science Club with a bouquet of flowers, after which he began the session, using audio visuals to drive home his message that all people are born atheists and that religious beliefs are acquired later in life. Further elaborating, he said that people are brainwashed when they are young children and religious ideas are stuffed into their minds, and once this happens, children continue having those beliefs throughout their lives. Since children are taught to be afraid and refused the basic right to question their elders and religious leaders, they refrain from questioning even when they are adults, he said, adding that religious beliefs and superstitions thrive simply because of people’s reluctance to question so-called spiritual and religious leaders.

In the course of his 2-hour session, Mr. Nayak spoke on the subjects of humanism, rationalism, and gender equality, elaborating on how all religions have successfully suppressed women and made them believe that they are inferior to men.

Mr. Nayak devoted most of his session to the subject of miracles, referring to them as mere tricks used by unscrupulous “god men” to establish their superiority over gullible devotees and to establish control over society. The ultimate purpose of these spiritual religious cheats is to make money, while they simultaneously advise their devotees to donate their wealth. To drive home his point, Mr. Nayak effortlessly performed some of the common tricks of god men, such as materializing things from nothing. He also promised his enthusiastic audience that he will perform more tricks during a future session.

An interactive session was held at the end of the input session. The trainees were enthusiastic, interested, and full of queries. They also decided that they would invite Mr. Nayak over for another session.
