Mangalore, Nov 14, 2013 : The Fifth Additional District Sessions Court of Puttur has passed a judgement sentencing a couple to life imprisonment including 19 years of Rigorous Imprisonment for looting jewellery from the house of one Krishnaraj MN of Ramakrunja after killing his grandmother and tying down his wife and mother.
Girish Poojari was a worker in the plantation of Krishnaraj. The incident had taken place on October 27, 2007 and the accused couple were arrested on November 28, the same year at Kergallu in Kundapur taluk. The couple were in judicial custody for the past five years and the court had also rejected their bail plea.
The court had heard a total of 26 witnesses in the case and had convicted the two in its judgement on October 28. The quantum of punishment was announced on November 12, Tuesday. The punishment in this case is the highest punishment given to any convict in the history of the Puttur court.
The court has also instructed that the couple’s four and a half year old son who was with them while in judicial custody, be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee which will take up the responsibility of the education of the child.
