Mangalore, Feb 19, 2012: Community Radio Sarang 107.8FM has bagged the Second Best Program Award for Promoting Local Culture, conferred by the union ministry of information and broadcasting.
These are the first awards of their kind given away by the ministry to recognize, appreciate, and promote community radios throughout the country.
The National Community Radio Awards ceremony was held at the inaugural of the 3-day Second National Community Radio Sammelan held in New Delhi from Feb 18 – 20. Dr. S. Jagatrakshakan gave away the awards to the winners and inaugurated the community radio exhibition.
Awards were given away in categories such as best programs in promoting local culture, adapting creative and innovative content, sustainability model, thematic programs, and community engagement.
Community Radio Sarang 107.8FM secured the award out of 130 community radios operating in India for promoting local Beary language and culture. This program Beary Harate is a chat show featuring two Beary women discussing HIV/AIDS, problems of HIV patients, and how the people can prevent this disease.
