Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2025: A student who became a mother after allegedly being raped and deceived by Shrikrishna J. Rao, son of Puttur BJP leader P.G. Jagannivas Rao, has appealed to Western Range IGP Amit Singh for police protection, citing threats to her life.

On Monday, the victim visited the IGP’s office in Mangaluru and submitted a petition stating, “Recently, some unidentified individuals have been suspiciously loitering near my house, especially at night, which my mother and I have noticed. In the cheating case against the accused, my only hope of justice from the court is through my child. I fear that my child’s life may be in danger from someone. Therefore, I request police protection for both myself and my child.”

State president of the Vishwakarma community, K.P. Nanjudi, and others were present during the submission of the petition.

The complaint, lodged at Puttur Women’s Police Station on June 24, alleged that the accused Shrikrishna developed a physical relationship with his fellow student after promising marriage, got her pregnant, and later refused to marry her. A case of rape and breach of trust was registered, and the victim gave birth to a baby boy on June 27. The accused was arrested on July 4 in connection with the case.
