Puttur: Chain snatcher held; valuables worth Rs 5.05 lakh recovered

Puttur, Aug 19, 2025: In a swift operation, Uppinangady police arrested a chain-snatching accused and recovered valuables worth Rs 5.05 lakh, including gold ornaments and a stolen motorcycle.

The accused has been identified as Abdul Rehman (31), a resident of Aletty in Sullia.


Thief arrest


The incident took place on June 4 at Nellyadi, Padubettu, under Uppinangady police station limits, when two unidentified men on a bike snatched a gold chain from a woman. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Abdul Rehman from Nekkiladi, Puttur.

From his possession, police seized a gold chain worth around Rs 4.54 lakh and a Pulsar bike used in the crime. The bike was later found to have been reported stolen in a case registered at Vijayanagar police station, Mysuru.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Arun Nagegowda, DySP of Puttur subdivision, and led by Uppinangady Circle Inspector Ravi B S with station staff.
