Poojary flays swamijis for supporting CM

Mangalore Today News Network

Poojary at press club nov 23Mangalore, November 23: Janardhan Poojary, the former union minister and senior Congress leader, severely criticized swamijis for still supporting the chief minister and demanded the immediate resignation of CM B. S. Yeddyurappa. He was addressing reporters in Mangalore on Tuesday.

Accusing the CM of instigating swamijis to express their support of him, Poojary said that the swamijis’ arguments that the CM’s mistakes are not serious in nature pose a huge threat to the morals of society. During a press meet in Bangalore on Monday, a group of Lingayat swamijis had termed the demand for the CM’s resignation as a “conspiracy” against Lingayat leaders. Questioning the Pejawar Seer’s non support of Ashok Chavan, Kalmadi, and A. Raja, who resigned in spite of prima facie allegations, Poojary said that these swamijis are in favour of only one region and religion and termed their support of him “shameful.”

Lamenting about the double standards of swamijis, who are actually supposed to preach morals and ethics to society, he said that they are conveying the wrong message to society by openly supporting corrupt, scandalous, and unethical politics. Labeling the swamiji’s statements as “foolish,” Poojary said that they have set a bad example to the youth by supporting corruption.

He advised the swamijis who are supporting the CM and claiming that he came of power only because of the Lingayat community, which comprises only 17 percent of the population, to learn from the example set by Tumkur Siddaganga Seer and Suttur Mutt Seer who are nationally acclaimed, but did not express their support of the CM. He also lauded H. D. Kumaraswamy and his father H. D. Devegowda for bringing the wrongdoings of the CM and his ministers into the open.

Poojary also congratulated the media for exposing the scams of the state government and spoke in appreciation of the governor and Justice Santhosh Hegde. Labelling the state politics as a “rotten pumpkin,” he said that if the BJP cannot find a cleaner person to assume power as the chief minister, the state should be ready to face elections for the post of CM.

MLA U. T. Khader and others were present at the press conference.
